9:57 AMRecap and Review: Kamen Rider Drive Episode 10
The case involving Volt is far from over but Tomari will have more than just the good doctor to contend with this week. So how will our heroes contend with this threat let's find out in episode ten of Kamen Rider Drive "What happened in the belt's past?". We kick things off with Tomari being teased about his Christmas Eve birthday. He takes off after their discussion and the team decides to get him something. The usual chief comedy follows but a blackout interrupts. Electricity is being drained from many sources including the generators in the Pit. Buckle finds this odd and we see that Volt is revived at the junkyard. The next day, Tomari reopens the case after investigating the Roidmudes identity. We find out he is an author who died three months ago. His book Unholy Night holds many similarities to the current case. The story is unfinished and with Volt taking the writer's identity puts the team at a huge disadvantage. Tomari and Kiriko are looking over the story at a local library when Chase arrives inviting Tomari to a more private location to continue their never ending battle.
Tomari tires to banter with Chase but he has none of it and the battle quickly starts between the two. Chase wishes to know just who he is and only by battling with Drive can he find the truth. These two are even for most of the fight but with Type Technique in his arsenal now Tomari easily takes the advantage and pushes the reaper back on his heels. Chase wants to continue but Heart arrives to join the battle. Buckle freaks out at his arrival and quickly calls for a retreat. The duos are confused but go along with. Heart is glad they are away from the Dead Zone now and reminds Chase of their promise. Back at the Pit Tomari tries to lighten the mood only to find out Buckle was killed by Heart when he was still human. Krim Steinbelt was his previous identity and he invites Tomari to take a ride with him to his former estate. On the way he explains how the Roidmudes were created by his colleague Professor Banno and he implanted his Core Driviar engines in the bots at his friends request. This is the same thing running the Shift Cars and the Tridoron. He goes on to say that this is what cause the Slowdown and eventually lead the bots to revolt against their creator and humanity as a whole 15 years ago. He completed Proto-Drive just before the Global Freeze event and their began his crusade against his creations.
Meanwhile at the junkyard Kiriko investigates the crime scene only for a Slowdown event to happen. A phone rings in a rubble nearby and Kiriko hears from Volt himself that he will continue his mission and nothing will stop him. Unholy Night shall fall on this city and after Tomari hears about this he heads off. He is quickly cut off by Heart who taunts Buckle with the idea that Kamen Rider will die once again. We find out Heart killed P.D. and he wishes to add Drive to the body count he has accumulated. Tomari refuses to back down even after Buckle insists. Drive is overpowered at times but prove to be very crafty and uses many of the tools at his disposal to get the drop on the Roidmude executive. With the help of Spin Mixer he has Heart on the ropes for a moment but he cannot follow up with Type Wild. Heart breaks free and uses this opportunity to turn the tide against our hero. Heart pushes himself to the limit to kill off Tomari but thanks to some words from Buckle finds a way forward. He uses Type Technique to break accurately through Heart's body and attempt to rip out Heart's heart. The two of them will be blown apart by the explosion and Tomari tries to separate from Buckle so another Rider can rise up and continue where he left off. We end this week with the two refusing to back down and Buckle pleading for Tomari to stop before it is too late.
This week defiantly surprised me as I expected Tomari to be taken down easily by Heart. To my surprise he shows his cunning and intellect and manages to bring the fight to a draw for now. We find out more about the history of the Roidmudes and while it is very run of the mill in terms of creation turning on creator Buckle sells it well with his story and guilt over the whole event. Volt and the Unholy Night take a major backseat this week but we get a little progress that will look to payoff next week as this case finally ends. Overall it was a really good episode of the show and I do hope this mix of stories will present in more episodes to come. Next week Tomari and Heart's battle ends, darkness bears down on the city and a multitude of characters makes their first appearance.
