10:29 PM Recap and Review: Kamen Rider Drive Episode 13 |
Mach has made his grand debut but how will the group dynamic change now that the daredevil has entered the scene. Let's find out with episode 13 "Why does my brother have no brakes?". We first see that a professor Harley Hendrickson was responsible for Mach. He is Buckle's mentor and informs the crew of Gou leaving in the middle of training. He says the belt is unstable at the moment and to look after him. Tomari is taken back at finding out that Mach was made to surpass Drive and Kiriko is infuriated with Buckle for giving Gou the belt. Whether this is true or not is up for debate but considering his past actions I would not be surprised if it was true. Tomari tries to pull her off but it takes Gou telling the two they look nice as a couple. The two state otherwise but quickly end in an argument. We cut to Kiriko and Gou at a grave for Sumiko Shijima, I assume their mother, as they pay their respects. Gou tells her not to worry about this whole thing and to trust in what he is doing. Kiriko receives a call from Tomari about the Slowdown wristband from last episode. We see a group of three advertising a hit on a credit union at noon. The Slowdown Gang looks to make a name for themselves and with the Roidmude brothers from last episode backing them up the team quickly departs to stop the attack from happening. The make a quick stop by the culprit from the last episode to find out more information. They quickly find out he has no memory of what happened and is a dead end. Otta gives him a pep talk before he and Tomari head off for the credit union. We check in with the executives as they discuss Gunman and 018's actions. They are critical of the brothers potentially going too far but assign Chase to look after them and make sure 018 has a chance to evolve. Chase asks Heart about his number and why he cannot remember anything before the Global Freeze event. Heart says 000 is a honored number and he is a mighty warrior. Simply put this all hints at what we already know but we do get to hear something on the matter within the show for once from Heat's point of view. At the credit union the police is there ready for anything but Mach quickly intercepts them before they arrive. He starts his own Slowdown with a fancy blue color instead of the usual red. Tomari quickly hops into action but after finding Mach responsible for it engages him in a fight. The two trade blows and after powering down talk things out. Tomari accosts Gou for using Slowdown on humans and saying that it makes him no better than the Roidmudes. Gou says they are already using the enemy's power and they are already on their level. The conversation is interrupted by Kiriko's arrival. They take him back to discuss things further. Gou takes the opportunity to show them pictures of himself as Mach. He uses his "insider info" to butter up the rest of the team and essentially allow himself to be allowed to come by at any time. Tomari has none of this and drags him off with Kiriko and Rinna following. Gou passes all this off and leaves to do things only he can do since he is not a cop or so he says. Down in the Pit Buckle gives some details on the Driver. It has an A.I. in place of Buckle and has a greater impact on the wearer than the Drive Driver. Rinna is very engrossed by these details and also poses the question of why did Gou leave. Tomari quickly figures it out by putting together that Gou followed the brothers here. We see him attempting to infiltrate there base. He poses as a potential buyer and uses this to destroy their supply of bracelets. This swiftly leads to a gunfight among him, Gunman, and Chase. Chase henshins after finding out who Chase is and goes after him along with the rest. After a strange Slowdown affect happens Gou is in trouble but our dynamic duo arrives to save him. He quickly tells Gou all he knows and engages Chase since these two must always fight. Gou takes his sweet time transforming in order find out the source of the wristbands. He confirms this and henshins to take the brothers down. He gets to show off more of his powers and absolutely rips apart the two without too much trouble. Danger, a shark bullet companion, Stop, a shield, and Split, a spread shot are all used to destroy their bodies. He finishes it with style with Curve and another two Roidmudes join the scrap yard. Chase goes to engage Mach but Medic evacuates him before he can do so. Gou gets some rest after finding out there are 88 Roidmudes left. Tomari figures more is at play with Gou but tells him back at the station the next day he will be the brakes for this fast moving Rider. The two seem to be on the same page and we end with the two bumping fists in consolidation. This was a good follow up to Mach's debut but does have a few issues. First is the odd inconsistence with the Slowdown in the latter half of the episode. I assume it has to do with 018 being the one who started it since Gunman did not affect Gou at all. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and say it was different from the normal Slowdown but more clarification would be nice if they decide to do this again. Gou potentially dying due to something wrong with him or the Driver itself is a bit cliché but I am not going to write it off until we know more. Other than these two this episode was good with Kiriko and Tomari working well with Gou and show that the group dynamic is going to be very different with him around. Chase confronts Heart over his number and we see that Heart is being very vague with him. Considering the preview for next week's episode it is easy to see Chase's true identity will not stay hid for long. Overall a good episode with some flaws but nothing major. Next week the S.C.U. work a case involving a stalker, Chase has a big revelation with himself, and Mach shows one more trick he has. A combination with Chase the Rider Crosser.
