1:07 PMRecap and Review: Kamen Rider Drive Episode 5
So here we are for another week of Drive talk much later than normal. This is later mostly because I have been a lazy bum the past few days and sat down and did this. Anyway let's get started with this episode five of Kamen Rider Drive "What are the steely thieves after?". One note before we get into the show proper is that we get the usual movie themed openings starting this week. Movie War Full Throttle looks great from the previews and I personally can't wait to read about what happens and then wait six months to see it fully. The show starts with a truck driver attacked by the Crush Roidmude with his two minions 060 and 074. Drive mangers to arrive in time to interrupt the attack although he has no gifts for our would be thieves. He makes quick work of the goons but Crush proves to be quite the challenge with his intense amount of strength. Rumble Dump arrives to give Drive a drill weapon but is a bit wild and only serves to seen the goons packing. We see Rinna leave the scene and Tomari checks on the driver before he leaves. We get a monologue from Tomari back at the station filling us in on the multiple attacks on transport trucks and how Public Security has asked that they investigate this case. Superintendent Kirihara Eiji is the one advising them and the team is elated to be involved in such a high profile case although when Drive is bought up in terms of knowing anything about him they all clam up quick. Rinna arrives to give Eiji a briefing on the Slowdown and is a bit coy about what she has been up to.
That night at their hideout the Roidmudes are planning their next attack when Chase arrives to send them back to go and they will not collect that free bag of popcorn along the way. Brain tells Chase to stand down for now and Heart assigns Chase to protection duty. Tomari is discussing possibly letting Public Security in on the operations but Buckle shoots him down saying there are very few people they can trust and considering how the Roidmudes operate they shouldn't take chances since anybody could be a Roidmude. Tomari seems a bit sad about this but perks up after Buckle gives him some info on his new form Type Wild. Our trio head off to Front-R, a pharmaceutical company, to find out more about the trucks attack. The president Kuramochi Mitsuru tells them that they only transport health food and supplement drinks and has no idea why they would be attacked. Tomari cracks a joke about the Roidmudes weight but comforts the president when he breaks down. Many different food trucks are being attacked and after a Slowdown hits them they head off to stop them again. Chase intercepts them and even steals Max Flare mid fight and use him against Drive. He seems to be running Proto-Drive's system and Tomari is at a bit of a disadvantage before he steals back Flare and even out the fight. Chase backs off since he has delayed them long enough to let Crush and his goons get away clean. Chase sees them arrive at the scene and Heart is there to give Chase some Shift cars of their own.
Back at the station Eiji is quick to propose that the Kamen Rider is somebody they know although this gets laughed off and Eiji leaves with Rinna to do super secret things. Gen sets off to stake out some of the trucks while Kiriko notes that Front-R trucks are more damaged than the rest and it might mean that they are after something. They receive info about another attack on a Front-R truck and Gen is almost killed by his own bullet he shot but Tomari arrives in the nick of time. Crush takes a suitcase from the back of the truck and while Crush and 074 get away 060 falls to the Steering Sword Speed finish. Chase cuts off Drive once more and the two duke it out once more while Crush and 074 watch the fight from afar with the jars of liquid they stole. Chase tunes up with the Spider Viral Core and easily overwhelms our hero. The only thing that saves him is matching Chase's execution finisher with Shadow's Steering Sword finisher. We find out that the trucks are smuggling explosives and Crush finds them to be a delightful drink to get him fired up. Tomari quickly puts some of it together but is left with many questions it is distracted. Shift Wild arrives to give Tomari the edge he needs but he is not focused enough to use it at the moment. Rinna is watching the scene as Drive is left batted and bruised by Crush and Brain decides to leave our hero with a gift. We end this week with Tomari infected by a neurotoxin and is in a lot of pain.
This week was a big tease for Type Wild but had plenty to offer and leaves a very interesting mystery to be solve in the next episode. Tomari and Kiriko don't get much but the two do show their growing partnership and it was nice to see Kiriko be the one to put the pieces together first. The rest the S.C.U. is in the background once more but next week promises to put these guys in the spotlight. Rinna seems to be working for Public Safety and may be informing them about Drive, to what end may be answered this week but I would not expect much more than further teases. Chase gets his "form changes" essentially this week and it will be cool to see what new powers he has at his disposal. The whole deal with Type Wild seems a bit forced but Buckle did say that Tomari needed to be in gear to use it beforehand so I will give a pass but will glare at it disapprovingly and hopes it won't be as forced as this one feels. Overall another good episode and really gets me excited to see next week's episode. Next week the S.C.U. are in danger of being shut down, Public Safety looks to discover Drive's identity, and Tomari truly gets Wild with his new form in hopes of taking Crush down.
