Recap and Review: Kamen Rider Drive Episode 9

Tomari continues to grow stronger but what will he come to blows with this week.  Let's find out with episode nine of Kamen Rider Drive "How can he use the cool body?".  We kick things off with Buckle introducing the crew to Fire Braver, Rolling Gravity, and the new form change Shift Car, Shift Technique.  We also find out that Wild required burning passion to use and Technique will need Tomari to be cool.  Very vague but Tomari fails because he seems a bit too nervous about the new form.  Braver heads off to take care of a fire that broke out in the middle of the night.  The S.C.U. gets a new case involving a string of house fires and the team is there to investigate Density Shift reports.  On the way there we see Tomari is into self help books to find a way to gain access to Type Technique.  At the scene they confirm the presence of a Roidmude and with the help of a kid named Nozaki Teruhiko uncover a clue about the case.  Before they can investigate further Tomari and Kiriko go to ask some men in suits about the scene but the men run away revealing themselves as Roidmudes.  The two give chase and after a quick brawl Tomari transforms to take on the goons.  037 and 103 prove no match for Tomari but the arrival of a third, 024, gets the best of our hero with a sneak attack and transforms into his evolved form.  Volt as he calls himself is able to deflect the Door Gun shots and forces Tomari to go for Technique again.  He once more fails and falls back to Type Wild out of frustration.  He manages to destroy 037 but this gives the other two the chance to run away.

The two have a quick run in with Chase who feels a bit generous and leaves them alone with only darken pants.  Chase wonders why he is being soft and writes it off as the Rider and his allies actions from the past two episodes.  Nozaki sees this encounter and Volt scares the kid a bit before abducting him for whatever he is planning.  Back at the office the team figures out that Volt caused the fire due to an overabundance of electricity.  To what end they are unsure of but Rinna and Kyu figure out the scrap yard is the origin of these fires and the dynamic duo head off to investigate.  They find a strange device with Nozaki attached to it.  They attempt to disconnect him but get shocked for their trouble.  Volt arrives to explain what he is up to.  He wants to reroute all the electricity in the city.  The device failed to contain the energy before but  the device Volt now has gives him complete control and will burn the boy to a crisp if they do not get him out in time.  Tomari will not let them get away with this and decides it is time to deliver some cool justice with the help of Technique.  The green truck form has the tire around his neck and allows Drive to gain access to the device by typing in the air.  With the help of a rear view camera he can shoot the pair of Roidmudes to keep them busy.  Drive uses Braver to get Nozaki out and with the Door Gun destroys the device.  He heads off to take the two down after checking the boy.

Tridoron cuts off the Roidmudes with its Type Technique form and causes the two to split with 103 attempting to head off with a small piece of the device Volt has but being hit by Tridoron.  Volt stays behind to fight Drive but he proves no match for the Rider in his new form.  Rolling Gravity arrives to help Tomari finish him off with his ten ton weight and the ability to control gravity.  With a Door Gun finisher Volt takes his bow but not before saying he will not die.  This seemingly brings the case to an end but 103 manages to make it to Heart and drop off the thing he was carrying.  103 fades away but Heart has what he needs to accomplish his greater plan.  Tomari and Kiriko drop by the hospital to check in on the boy and give him a couple of presents.  First his robot fully repaired from earlier and a Drive Logo, which you can order right now.

This week had all the marks of an one off episode but the preview shows there is more to come and it may not end well for Tomari.  Technique had a good introduction and showed that it may look like the brute form but it is a more tactical form then Tomari's previous form changes.  There are no big changes to talk about outside the back forth among Tomari, Kiriko, and Buckle which was great and gave the episode some great comedic moments.   What exactly Heart is planning will have to wait till next week but I cannot wait to see what comes from the "leader" of the Roidmudes.  Overall a quick one and done episode that served to set up next week and give us a new form change.  Next week electricity is being stolen, Volt seems to not be as dead as we thought, and Drive comes face to face with Heart .
