Recap and Review: Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 22

After last week's revelations what will Kouta do with this new information about Yggdrasill's plans.  Let's find out with episode 22 of Kamen Rider Gaim "The Truth of One in Seven."   We start off with Micchy doing his best to turn Kouta away from what he has learned but Kouta will have none of it.  They are interrupted by Mai as she calls in to say a portal has appeared on a bridge in the middle of the city.  We come back from the opening with Team Yggdrasill discussing what to do about said portal.  Takatora wants to keep people away from the portal and set up a defensive field around the portal in Helheim so no Inves can get out.  Sid says this is useless but Takatora wants to use the Scalar System, the Synch System from last week, as a last resort if any Inves come through.  Sengoku will be heading up the defense with Minato as back up.

Our two Team Gaim riders arrive at the bridge to see it roped off by Yggdrasill personal.  Kouta decides to take the fight to the other side to help close the portal.  They arrive just in time to run into Kaito as he leaves what look like packs of printer paper in the forest.  They ask for his help but he is off doing his own thing and even tells Kouta he knows about the Scalar System which he learned from Sengoku.  Kaito heads off and our two Team Gaim riders head off for the other side of the portal.  There they see Minato with a plethora of Kurokage troops to defend the portal while Sengoku has a defensive barrier set up just like what is at Yggdrasill HQ.  Kouta comes out and ask what they are doing and Sengoku says they are defending the portal.  Inves attack again and Kouta decides to help out for now and tells Micchy to get Team Gaim to safety.   Kouta finds out that Sengoku is simply standing there pretending to be busy while the portal takes it's sweet time closing.  Kouta is a bit upset by this but Sengoku says his research is up to the standards set already.  Kouta gets pulled into a fight and even brings out Jinba Cherry arms to give himself a quick speed boost to attack the Inves.  This confirms that each Jinba Arms has a specialty for the looks of it.

Meanwhile Micchy is convincing Team Gaim to come with him to a "new stage" that is underground.  They fall for this new lie from Micchy and we check with Kouta to find out what Project Ark is.  Essentially  Yggdrasill can only make about one billion Sengoku Drivers.  The other six billon people approximately will be killed off over the ten years between here and when the invasion will be complete in order to ensure that the one billion can survive.  Minato forces Kouta to focus on the Inves after Kouta is about ready to fight Sengoku for taking this plan so calmly.   We cut to Micchy as he leads Team Gaim to a underground bunker where other people have gathered in case the ring is fired I assume.  The portal is closed and the day is saved but Kouta has other plans as he takes Minato's Peach Energy Lockseed and heads for Yggdrasill's personal portal back to their HQ to destroy the Scalar System's controls.  Takatora does not take too kindly to this and intercepts Kouta before he can reach the control room.  He goes into Shin Zangetsu form to fight Kouta's Jinba Lemon form and the two trade words about what Yggdrasill is going to do.  Takatora goes as far as to say the first blow should be larger than Zawame City.  Kouta fights hard and for the first time we see Takatora on the ropes as Kouta is able to land some blows and seen Takatora back on his heels.  He decides to pull a trump card to win the fight as he shows what happen to Yuuya to Kouta.  Kouta is devastated by the truth and falls to his knees as Takatora tells him to give up.  We end this week on this shocking note.

This week gives us an idea of what Yggdrasill is up to and even shows that the kindness Takatora showed before hid a very cold man underneath as he is willing to sacrifice six billion people for sake of one billion in order for humanity to survive and he will be the one to push the button when it comes time.  Kouta shows his resolve but is brought back down again due to the truth about Yuuya but based off of next week's preview he will rise back up and this time he will be stronger than ever.  Micchy shows he is still the lying snake that will do what is best for him before anyone and lie to everyone around him.  Takatora shows that he has the resolve to do what is necessary and when he was backed into a corner pull out a trump card to win and possibly eliminate his biggest threat in the form of Kouta.  Yggdrasill's plan seems cruel but for all we know they have tried all other options and this is the only thing that they have left to save humanity.  Kouta will fight to prevent this from happening but will he give up more than he is willing to give in order to do so.  All in all this was a great episode that showed us just what is Yggdrasill and that Kouta will do what he needs to do to protect Zawame even if it means working with the enemy or charge straight through the front door looking to pick a fight.  Next week Kaito finds the Inves he is after, Red-Eye returns to help Kouta, and Sagara has a surprise for our lead as he takes center stage with a new Lockseed... Kachidoki.  If you want to see the show for yourself check out Aesir Subs or TV-Nihon for subbed episodes every week or check out http://taima.tv/r/TokuNMecha for Super Hero Time, Ressha Sentai Toqger and Kamen Rider Gaim, live at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.  Join the discussion either in the comments or on the forums on the site and check out TGSR Saturdays at 9 for both me and my co host Rampant Epsilon as we discuss the show further.
