1:35 PM Recap and Review: Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 30 |
So who is ready for a detour from the main plot episode of Kamen Rider Gaim again. No one, well too bad it is crossover time with Ishinorori creation Kikaider drops by to try to get you to go see his new movie Kikaider Reboot. How does this trip back two weeks in continuity, let's find out with episode thirty of Gaim entitled "Half-Red, Half-Blue, Kikaider." We start off this week with Kouta's sister Akira showing Kouta a picture of a stray puppy he picked up as a kid and wanted to keep. He wanted to find it a home but couldn't. Later on Kouta and Mai find a random guy doing his best statue impression and after it starts pouring down they try to move him but he is as solid as a rock. After some stray lighting hits him he moves. The two decide to take him to Gaim HQ to dry him off. They try to do just this but find he is already dry for some reason. They also see a CGI button on his back that says "REBOOT." He eventually introduces himself as Jiro a robot while Kouta introduces himself Mai, and the snake Micchy. He seems to not remember anything which will lead to the plot of the episode. Kouta takes him home to care for him until he remembers what he needs to remember. We find him cooking dinner for Kouta and his sister and even cleaned up the house before hand. We get another mention of the puppy from earlier which leads to Jiro finding a puppy for Kouta, we also find out he is a terrible cook. The two have a walking conversation I assume either the next day or later and after a Inves attacks Kouta henshins to take it on. Kouta does his best but this Inves has super drill horns which knocks Kouta back and causes Jiro to fight the Inves off in his place. Meanwhile at Yggdrasill HQ Sengoku has a new toy, a robot of his own. He gives us some info of Kikaider while he preps himself to test the new robot out. Back home Akira tells the two she has movie tickets and we get a scene where Jiro hints at the plot of the movie where he has to protect somebody but doesn't want to fight. Kouta is called to a warehouse by Zack to help out as there is trouble. We cut Kouta arriving to find Zack got his ass handed to him by Hakaider aka Sengoku's brain in the robot's body. Kouta goes Jinba Lemon to fight to fusion of two baddies but is beaten fairly quickly. Kouta gets some background on Jiro who is Kikaider. We find out he was created by Nobuhiko Koumyouji to be a battle robot. That is about it and Hakaider leaves to test out the new body some more. Later on we see Kouta consult Plotpedia to find out that Nobuhiko died in a accident while working on some project. Kouta believes that there is something sinister going on because his gut tells him so. Jiro doesn't believe this is enough and tells Kouta not to push the "REBOOT" button because he doesn't know if he will turn into something like Hakaider. Speaking of said person we see him take out squads of Watermelon Arms and Kurokage troops before Minato interrupts to stop him from destroying more goons. Later on Jiro wonders about his power to protect people before he sees Kouta take on the Inves from earlier. Kouta henshins to fight it in Orange Arms while Hakaider decides to take on Jiro. He is able to hold his own against the destruction obsessed robot but after Kouta arrives he decides to fight and tells Kouta to push the button. With the button pushed Jiro henshins to Kikaider. Kouta goes Kachidoki Arms to not be out matched and the two take on the Inves and Sengoku. The drive off Sengoku and use a Kachidoki Charge shot combined with a kick assist from Jiro. Before Kouta can celebrate Jiro disappears and Kouta catches up with him playing his guitar in his dehenshined state. He doesn't recognize Kouta and goes off to do his movie while Kouta tells his sister that he found his home. We end off with Sengoku wondering what person would make the robot he was in, and Akira and Kouta going off to see the not Kikaider REBOOT movie she got tickets for. This was a episode that felt very much like a filler episode and while it is not bad I wouldn't call it good. Kouta gets to show the more mature side we have come to know and inspire another person to become a hero kind of as everything is essentially reset by the end of the episode, something Gaim has never really done so far. Akira gets the most screen time in a episode to date and it is a bit disappointing that of all the episodes this is the one we get to spend a lot of time with her. Hakaider spends the episode being Sengoku in a new body while Jiro spends the episode wondering who he is just to get his memories back and forget this episode. Overall this was a okay episode that will best remembered for its action more so than its plot. Only time will tell if movie can make up for what I felt was the weakest episode of the series thus far. Next week we return to the main plot with Demushu's attack on the city, Sid and Micchy's meeting with Redyue and the White Overlord creates a new Lockseed, Kiwami.
