8:04 PMRecap and Review: Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 31
We are back from to the main plot and this show wastes no time in getting things back on track and this week has left many and shock and at what has transpired. With that said let's not waste time ourselves and take a look at episode thirty-one of Kamen Rider Gaim "The Whereabouts of the Forbidden Fruit." I will say I love that we open each week with a quick recap and the opening before the show starts properly. It is a nice way to build hype for the upcoming episode. Anyway we check in with Takatora to start off with as he finds out some more info on the fruit. He conforms that it can change the world but Roshuo, the White Overlord from the past few weeks. He has went as far as to claim the fruit himself and plans to use it for other means since humanity is unworthy to have the fruit. Sagara appears to convince Roshuo to give humanity a chance and not use the fruit to give life back to his lost love which we see the coffin is not far from him. Cutting to the battle from two weeks ago we see Kouta and Kaito take off but Sid and Micchy see Redyue approach them. We see Demushu launch attack at the city while Sid and Micchy fight Redyue and actually get him to surrender and take them to the fruit. Micchy is worried about this but Sid is blinded by his desire for godlike powers.
Meanwhile Kouta and Kaito are doing their best but seem to be no match for Demushu who easily takes them both. Demushu is obsessed with power and wants to hunt humanity since he considers them worthless. Sagara is able to convince Roshuo to take a small part of the fruits power and give it to humanity as a test. This turns out to be the Kiwami Lockseed which Sagara takes and teleports away. At Yggdrasill HQ Minato is trying to calm Zawame's mayor down but it isn't till Sengoku as Duke cuts off all communication in the city and uses it to direct his Kurokage Troops to battle. Sengoku sees this as an opportunity to capture the Overlord and find out where the fruit is. Meanwhile Kouta is knock out of Rider Form and Kaito takes a shot which separates him from his belt and the fight at hand. Kouta after hearing Demushu's motive has had enough of him and goes Kachidoki to end this fight. The two seem evenly match although Kouta is able to set up a Kachidoki Charge shot to end it but is interrupted by Minato who along with the Kurokage Troops finally break through Kachidoki's plot armor and knock Kouta out so they can have the Overlord to themselves. Thanks to a random Trooper, Kaito regains his belt and takes Kouta and leaves Yggdrasill to deal with the Overlord for now. Sengoku tells them to focus on the Overlord which looks like they are able to handle him at least for now.
Meanwhile Redyue leads Sid and Micchy to the fruit which is the same place where Roshuo is. Sid goes on ahead but Micchy stays behind since he has seen through the trap and would rather not be killed today. Redyue finds this very interesting and a bit funny. At Gaim HQ Kaito drops Kouta off and decides to go back out there to continue the fight. Kouta gets to have a conversation with Kaito about the strength he is after since Demushu is very much the same as Kaito from the looks of things. Kouta asks him if he will be like him one day. Kaito tells him he needs the strength to stand up to any foe and to tell him to become stronger too, even though he has passed out by now. Zach tags along with Kaito to defended the city.
Sid arrives to face Roshuo to gain godlike powers but he will not give it up easily. Sid fights with everything he is got but it doesn't even leave a scratch on Roshuo. As Sid reaches out to take the fruit from him even after his Driver and Lockseed are destroyed he is sent into a cracked open wall behind him and then crushed by Roshuo paying the price for his desire leaving nothing behind except the sound of the slamming together and his hat on the ground before Takatora who is left in shock by these events. Checking in with Minato and the Kurokages we see things aren't going well and Minato wants to pull out to regroup Sengoku orders her to keep up the fight. Kaito and Zach arrive to enter the fight and transform to fight the Overlord and we end there.
This week we see possibly one of the most violent deaths for a main character with Sid and we didn't even see much more than the two walls closing it was all implied by the visuals and the audio. Sid takes his bow from the show in a huge way and we see that Roshuo will not give up the fruit easily. Kouta shows his resolve fighting literally till he couldn't stand anymore. Kaito shows what I believe to be his true self by saying he wants power to combat any foe and Kouta needs to do the same. I believe we are seeing the first cracks in the relationship between Minato and Sengoku but that will be a long term observation for now. Sagara shows himself to be a bit of a referee in this chess game of sorts as he convinces Roshuo to give him a piece of the fruits power to test humanity a piece he seems to have been expecting to come in that form. Overall this was a fantastic episode and will go down as on the best in the series by the end to over sell a bit. Next week Kaito, Zach, and Minato team up with the Comedic Duo of Jono and Pierre to hold the line and defend the city meanwhile Micchy continues to scheme and Kouta recovers and cast off the armor of Kachidoki to attain the power of Kiwami Arms.
