9:42 PMRecap and Review: Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 38
After the shocking turnabout from two weeks ago we pick up from there and see how Micchy deals with his first kill in episode thirty-eight of Kamen Rider Gaim "The Professor's Return". Our cold opening gives us Kouta finding the now destroyed Sengoku Driver and Melon Lockseed Takatora was wearing and a shadowy figure waits in the wings wearing shorts far too small for his size. We pick up on the show proper with Micchy seeming happy about his victory although he seems to be a bit over the hill as he hallucinates Takatora being there and insulting him at every turn. Maybe the sour grape still has a bit of a souls left in him or he has finally snapped, harder then he has already. Redyue sees this and is a bit confused as to why his minion is talking to the window and throwing stuff at it. Meanwhile Kouta heads back to Team Gaim HQ to deliver the news of what happen to Takatora. Mai is the first to find out and the two are taken back by what he has done. Sengoku decides to drop by and throws salt in the wound before saying he is not there to fight. Kouta will not hear any of this and the two transform to fight it out. Sengoku is able to keep the upper hand even with Zack hopping in to assist as Knuckle. Kouta even goes Jinba Lemon and finally sends Sengoku back a step. After the two have shots collide Sengoku sets up for another before Kaito arrives to ensure Sengoku stands down before he is shot in the back. Sengoku finally surrenders and tells the group why he is there. He wants to get back into Yggdrasill Tower and wants there help to do so. He knows of a way in that he had commissioned and will lead them there in order to rescue the ones captured. Everyone is a bit hesitant to trust someone who has stabbed people in the back before. We get a quick scene where Redyue gives an update to Roshuo. Roshuo laments the loss of his comrades and even threatens Redyue with violence when he is question for giving up a piece of the fruit to Kouta by proxy. Micchy is their and is surprised by their actions.
Back at Team Gaim HQ Kouta and Kaito are the only ones to consider Sengoku's offer since everybody else is steadfast against it. The two later go to a tree overlooking the city to discuss things. Mai finds them and tells them to come back since food is about to be severed. Mai proposes that a party should be held when this is all over. Kaito questions Kouta strength since he sees him as not having the resolve to push forward and doesn't know what his dreams are. Kouta and Mai head off and we see that Kaito's wound is starting to grow plants. We cut to the next day as Peko and Mai are off shopping. Micchy interrupts to take Mai away. Peko tells him to back off and gets attacked by a Turtle Overlord. She is able to convince Micchy to let Peko go by saying she will go along and the three head off leaving Peko injured in the middle of the street.
Kouta and Kaito arrive to hear about it from Peko and Kouta heads off to get Mai back. Redyue overlooks the encounter and Mai is taken away by the Overlord. The former friends transform to Shin Zangetsu and Jinba Lemon respectfully. Kouta takes his time doing so since he is still holding back. Micchy is able to keep up and even forces Kouta to go Kachidoki in order to fight him off. Kouta gains the upper hand quickly but Micchy is quick to answer back and knocks Kouta down. Another hallucination gives Kaito a chance to enter the fight and allow the two to even things up. Kouta finally goes Kiwami to end the fight but it looks like that is not enough to stop the rampaging melon. Micchy after blocking attack from our heroes fires a scattered charge shot and makes the two retreat and ridding himself of the Takatora visions. Kouta is dragged off by Kaito and tells him that Micchy has casted aside all doubts and Kouta is not ready to take his former friend down. Kouta is shocked by this and we end off with Kouta possibly looking to do anything to rescue Mai.
This week has caused a bit of uproar since Micchy has gotten a huge boost in power since we last saw him fight and many are calling bullshit. Personally it did seem like any other fight where Micchy is back pedaling at times and only gets the upper hand because Kouta is holding back. It does seem like a huge jump but this show has been at a fast pace since day one and this may just be a sign of that pace coming back in full force. Kouta does show he is still a bit green since he still refuses to fight Micchy on a even playing field and keeps considering him a friend no matter what he does. Kaito shows he does look out for Kouta and pulls him out of a fight that he may lose considering Micchy has gone full insane bad guy. Micchy was great to watch just for his reactions to the Takatora hallucinations. Sengoku was entertaining as always taunting our heroes right in their face knowing that they need him more then he needs them. Overall anther great episode of Gaim and one that will lead into what looks to be an action packed episode waiting for us next week. Speaking of next week the Riders take up Sengoku on his offer and they storm Yggdrasill tower in search for the missing people.
