9:51 PMRecap and Review: Kamen Rider Gaim Episode 43
Gaim shows us this week that while we know many things about this show due to on site photos and knowledge of events in upcoming episodes we are still in for a few surprises and how this show ends is still up in the air. So what shocked the community this week, let's find out with episode forty-three "Baron's Ultimate Transformation!". We start off this week with Kouta and Micchy still fighting. Not much of a cold opening as we quickly get to the opening credits and into the show proper. We catch up with Mai after this as Sagara tells her about how Kouta, Kaito, Micchy are all taking huge risks to gain the Golden Fruit she holds. She says none of them wanted this but Sagara tells her she can do anything with the fruit potentially. She goes on to accept the power while we see Sengoku preparing for surgery. Back with the fighting riders Micchy sets up to end the fight with a Squash attack. Kouta moves to counter with a Orange charge but takes the attack head on in order to take the Lockseed away from Micchy. The two de-henshin and Kouta crushes the Lockseed in his hand. He has been stabbed in the chest and he tells Micchy to forgive himself and forget the past. He eventually passes out from the pain and potentially dies from the injury. Micchy wonders why anybody would forgive him for everything he has done and can only move on with the thought of saving Mai.
Back at Gaim HQ Chucky and Peco tell Minato and Kaito about the hospital Sengoku and Micchy are at. Micchy arrives to tell Sengoku Kouta is dead. He proceeds to tell the Grape Rider that the operation was a success but Mai is dead now since the fruit fused with her heart. Micchy is absolutely broken by this and can barely but up a fight as Sengoku attempts to strangle him to death after destroying his Genesis Driver. This is only stopped by Mai appearing as Red-Eye from the fruit and telling Micchy everything will be okay since she will fix things. Sengoku is shocked by what just happen and we see Mai attempt to change the past. We see each of the instances of Red-Eye's appearances and see that the words she wanted to say were changed and she only draws more attention to them since she pointed Sagara to each of the three due to her time travel. She can do nothing to change their fates as we see Kaito and Minato arrive on scene. They find Micchy crying next to Mai's dead body and Sengoku trying to apply science to what Mai just did. Minato tells Kaito about Mai and the two go to transform and take revenge. Both of their Genesis Drivers are destroyed by Sengoku's kill switch but Kaito fights on with his Sengoku Driver. Kaito is easily overwhelmed and eventually forced to de-henshin. Kaito also finds out that Kouta is dead and tries to henshin once more before being overwhelmed by the Inves infection. Sengoku becomes curious by what happen to him and notes that he is surprised by how he can still be human. Kaito takes a Helheim Fruit from nearby and goes to eat it. Sengoku calls him a fool for trying something so desperate says he is insane.
Kaito only replays by saying he is as insane as Hase and eats the fruit. He transforms into a Overlord like creature with a design and color scheme like his Rider form. Minato watches as Kaito absolutely destroys Sengoku with his new found power. Sengoku is de-henshin and sent flying into a wall nearby with a simple punch from Lord Baron. Sengoku manages to survive barley from this but falls over a guardrail and falls from the rooftop they have been battling at to his death. Kaito has become something more and fights against his death ordained by fate. Minato looks on in shock as she takes Sengoku's Genesis Driver. We end with one last image of Kouta lying dead in a bed of feather from the earlier battle.
This week's episodes firmly puts Kaito in the position of being the final villain but I have to wonder if it is that simple. The threat of Helheim still hangs over the world and even with Kaito's defeat or reversal from the antagonistic role he has taken changes nothing in the grand scheme of things. Just how will the world be saved if can be at all at this point. Mai showed that even with the fruit time can't be changed the world they are in is the world they must live in. She still may be able to do something but for now she can only accept that even with all this power she is powerless to help anyone for now. Kouta makes the ultimate sacrifice for his friend but has that left the world at the mercy of Kaito's rule since Micchy is in no mental shape to fight anyone. Speaking of the traitor he receives a punishment worse than death as those he has fought for so long have sacrificed their lives for something more and he is left truly alone since the only ones that cared about even after his countless betrayals are gone. Kaito makes a desperate bid for power and is now the only one left out of the main four riders standing. His rule may spell the end for anyone that wishes to oppose him. Minato gets to be the one on the sidelines for this episode as she bears witness to Kaito's transformation and now I wonder if she is having second thoughts about siding with Kaito. Sengoku goes out in a brutal fashion and all his scheming and planning is destroyed due to the choices of those around him. Overall this was a fantastic episode and is defiantly a turning point in the final run for many of the characters of this show. In two weeks we see Kaito begins his congest of the world, the Nutastic Trio step in to be the heroes, and Kouta comes face to face with Mai/Red-Eye as we draw closer to the finale of Kamen Rider Gaim. Also expect two R&Rs then since I will be taking a week off.
