7:41 PMRecap and Review: Kamen Rider Drive Episode 28
With Gou a bit on the crazy side and Tomari still suspended what will the team do to solve the case this week. Let's find out in "Why were families targeted?". We start off were we left off with Gou telling Tomari about his family heritage. Gou is feeling very guilty about the whole Roidmude situation and wants to destroy them all no matter what. He tells Tomari that Kiriko doesn't know and not to tell her a damn thing. Tomari informs Buckle about Gou and the two wonder what to do now. Kiriko arrives after they are done talking and we get a small update on the Proto-Speed Shift Car. The team is discussing what to do when Nira arrives to be a pester once more and antagonize the team over there recent "failing". Chief wonders what they can do to end the suspension early and Tomari has an idea that requires the help of Chase. Chase is quick to help them out but is worried about Gou being a bit more aggressive than usual and Tomari wonders if it is a part of the Roidmude's plan. Gou is off with Yoriko when information comes in on Ryo's location. The team figures that Gou is being targeted and 001 seems to be the one behind the plan this time. Speaking of the devil he seems to be ready to move against the Riders with a plan that looks to rip them apart.
Gou arrives at an apartment complex where Ryo is supposed to be and continues to ignore any calls he is getting. The team figures out that there is no Yoriko Souma and they put together some of the pieces of the case. Meanwhile Gou finds himself at the center of another attack and heads off to stop it. Rinna drops by the office saying that the upgraded detector for Density Shifts is ready and they should be able to detect and the faintest of events. The team is ready and now they set into motion the plan to get Tomari in the clear. We see Nira drop by and Tomari tell him he will only transform when he gives the word to do so. We soon see Chase arrive in his Roidmude form and "attack" Nira which forces the pest to lift Tomari's suspension and Drive is back in action. Tomari hops in the Booster Tridoron with Chase and the two head off to find Gou. Brain sees them head off and sends three Roidmudes enhanced by Viral Cores after them.
Gou goes Mach and uses the Zerin Shooter plus Stop to prevent people from fighting it out and destroying the Red Viral Cores that are floating above their head. Tomari and Chase find themselves in a dogfight which delays them from arriving long enough for Gou to find out the truth the hard way. Yoriko has been playing the daredevil the entire time and is the Roidmude that has been behind the string of attacks. 050 has been helping her out and with this little plot bomb dropped on him Gou goes berserk and attacks the Roidmude. We also see that Gou has been affected by the same thing as the other victims, having their negative emotions amplified, and so far Gou has fallen right into their trap. Yoriko is just laughing away as Mach goes Dead Heat to destroy yet another Roidmude. Gou holds nothing back and even throws in Rumble Dump for good measure.
Before Gou can attack furthers Chase interrupts him but only draws the anger of the wild Rider. Chase is eventually forced out of his Rider form and Gou goes for the kill with a Full Throttle kick but Tomari stops him cold with his own kick. Tomari having enough of all this goes Type Formula and proceeds to attack the crazed monster. With a combination of the Pit Crew and the Formula Cannon 050 bites the dust and we find out who Yoriko really is. She is Reiko Nishihori, the daughter of Kouya from way back in Episode Zero, and was looking to force Gou to kill a human. She is left in a broken mess after he plans fail and Gou heads off with a lot on his mind. Chase wonders about the importance of family and Kiriko is glad her brother is safe. We soon see that 001 looks to use Gou as a weapon against the Riders and destroy them once and for all. We end the episode with Gou a bit lost as Brain arrives to have a talk with him.
This week didn't quite give us all the answers as we still don't know why Kiriko doesn't know about her father but still satisfies as it puts Gou into a precarious position. We see just how much anger Gou has for the Roidmudes and by extension his father. Again not a totally original idea Gou sells it with just how much visceral hatred we see in the final half of the episode. Chase once more shows why he is a lot of people's favorite character as he just slips right into the secondary Rider position while Gou is off getting caught in a bear trap. Kiriko takes a little more of a back seat than I would like for an arc about her family but we do see how she cares for Gou and doesn't want to see him hurt. Tomari is there to be the main Rider and not much else but we will get an arc starting next time about him. The rest of the S.C.U. helps out where they can but like Tomari are there to support. This week was a good way to end off this arc and continue to shake up the status quo for Drive and a good episode overall. Next week Tomari comes face to face with the man who killed his father and Gou seems to have done the unthinkable as he teams up with Brain against Chase.
